My name is Tasha Mitchell and I’m not you’re average twenty year old. Up until April of last year, I believed I was an average teenager. On the contrary, I’m one in a million. In April of 2009 I was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma cancer located in my heart. I had a tumor that was blocking my left valve blocking most of the oxygen that was desperately needed. In a nut shell I had surgery, had the tumor removed, leaving some of the cancer behind, and have bee
n doing chemo since June 2009. For a while my doctors wanted me to undergo a heart-lung transplant, but because of the location of the cancer, no one in the country would do the surgery. My family found a doctor in Texas who does cardiac autotransplantation. He’ll take out my heart, remove the cancer that still remains, repair the heart, and then put my heart back in. A new beginning for me and this is my journey that I would like to share it with you. I’ll post pictures of my progress and blog to keep you updated. I would like to just say thanks to all of you that follow me because I know how hard daily life is, but it’s great to know that there’s people out there who have big hearts and for that, I am truly grateful.
